OUR HISTORY

1826 - 2026

FOUNDED IN 1826 DURING THE REIGN OF GEROGE IV

2026 is the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the company that is now Capes Dunn & Co. We are proud of the company’s history and longevity.

In 1826, the same year that Mr Capes held his first auctions in Manchester, the Menai Suspension bridge was opened, University College London was founded, Beethoven completed his String Quartet in C Sharp Minor and the first Cowes Regatta was held.

Over the years, the name changed sometimes due to partnerships that formed and dissolved and the company premises were situated on several different streets in Manchester and now in Heaton Mersey as shown in the timeline below.

Michael Perry joined the firm in 1960 and in 1979 became the Principal.  Together with Michael, the current 12 members of staff have provided well over 300 years service to the people of Manchester and surrounding areas.

About the PRINCIPAL

Michael Perry joined the business in 1960 at just 16 years old and he became the sole proprietor of the business in 1979. He still works a full week in the office doing our free valuation days, probate valuations and scripting for our wide array of auctions.
